Panel Discussion:

Reflections on Practical, Actionable Recommendations

TÜSİAD Berlin Office organized a panel discussion titled “G7 – G20 2015 & the Business World: Reflections on Practical, Actionable Recommendations” on 30 June 2015, in cooperation with its German counterpart BDI (Federation of German Industry) and British Embassy in Ankara. The event took place at the ESMT– European School of Management and Technology premises in Berlin, with significant attendance of high ranking guests.

The event was moderated by the TÜSİAD/TCCI European Economic Integration Chair Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Stefan Wagner. Following the brief welcome address of TÜSİAD Berlin Office Director Alper Üçok, the Ambassador of Turkey to Germany His Excellency Hüseyin Avni Karslıoğlu delivered an enlightening keynote speech on Turkey’s G20 Presidency and its priorities. The participants of the subsequent panel discussion were Tim Jones (First Secretary- Economic Policy Division of the British Embassy in Berlin), Dr. Bahadır Kaleağası (TÜSİAD International Coordinator), Soli Özel (Lecturer- Kadir Has University), Dr. Stefan Mair (BDI Member of the Executive Board), Heino von Meyer (Director- OECD Berlin Centre) and Dr. Gesa Miehe-Nordmeyer (Head of G7/G20 Sherpa Team- Federal Chancellery Germany).

In addition to the major findings of the report titled “Business Priorities for Recommendations of Turkey’s G20 Presidential Term in 2015” funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO)- Prosperity Fund, the following points were underlined during the panel discussion:

  • Turkey’s G20 Presidency’s key priorities as summarized in the three I’s: inclusiveness-implementation-investment; sustainable and inclusive growth as well as the growing role of the private sector.
  • Common idea of globalized governance of G7 and G20 processes, convergence and divergence between the two forums, the need for enhanced harmonization and communication as well as focus on common goals leading to the creation of a synergy.
  • Improved dialogue and increasing cooperation with other international and intergovernmental platforms, institutions and organizations.
